I Dreamed About Avril Lavigne

I just had this funny and weird dream. It somehow bothered me upon waking up.

The story goes like this.

It began when my father arrived at home with an important guest from today’s festival in our village. He introduced me to the guest, it was Avril Lavigne. I can’t believe it. A famous pop-rock star is in the house. “She will have a concert later at night”, my father added.

So she began rehearsing her songs and I was just watching her. I was very amused that I also sang with her every time I knew the lyrics and tune. Then she started to sing a familiar song but I knew it was not hers. My mother who was quietly watching behind me without my knowledge suddenly asked me who is the artist of that song that Avril was singing?  I told her I don’t know.

“It’s from Alanis Morisette,” Avril said.

Avril stopped from rehearsing. We began to chat with one another. Talked about anything. We laughed and shared a lot of stuffs. Then she told me she had to take a shower. I let her choose among our 3 bathrooms in the house but she chose the one inside my room.

Feeling inspired, I went outside to do some chores, but when came back, Avril was not around. My mother told me that Avril left and walked towards the concert area for another rehearsal, so I quickly rode my bike to follow her.

On my way, I asked a man in a tricycle if he saw Avril, he told me that he saw her turned to an alley 5 meters away from us.

There she was, alone, as if looking for someone. I asked her what was she doing on that place. She said she was looking for me.

“I am afraid you’re gone”, she added.

“No, I will not leave you”, I replied.

We hugged each other at that moment and she began taking ‘selfie’ photos of us with her mobile phone. I was very happy. People began to notice us and it did not bother me. I was seizing the moment. She invited everyone to gather together for a group picture with us. Some of my male friends joined also. I felt it was the best day of my life.

But afterwards while we were having some snacks with my friends and some of the village people, Avril stood up and left my side. Upon coming back, she did not sit beside me but with my male friend.

Then she uttered the most embarrassing words I heard in my entire life. “It was a mistaken identity. I am sorry”, Avril said in a sad voice. She further told us that she thought I was her long-lost secret love whom she met long time ago. She realized it was not me, but my male friend.

As defense mechanism, I told her it was fine and I understand her. As I left, I felt my world trembled. People started laughing and talking about me. I heard someone said that I was so stupid to assume that Avril could have a crush on a guy like me.

I went back home and proceeded to my room where I found out that Avril left a notebook of her song lyrics. What a coincidence, she left something for a remembrance.

I looked outside the window and I heard her rehearsing from a distance because the sound system from the concert area was too loud. A song got my attention while she was singing it.

“I came in like a wrecking ball
I never hit so hard in love
All I wanted was to break your walls
All you ever did was wreck me

I came in like a wrecking ball
Yeah, I just closed my eyes and swung
Left me crashing in a blazing fall
All you ever did was wreck me
Yeah, you, you wreck me”

She was singing “Wrecking Ball” of Miley Cyrus.

“Hey! I should be the one singing that for you”, I shouted while feeling the pain in my heart.

The next morning, I went to the concert area. I sat on a bench while looking at the empty chairs. The stage was already clean.

I am half awake already, but the dream continued running in my mind. I was still sitting at the concert area and hoping that Avril would come back to say some parting words. She didn’t.

I woke up. Confused and bothered. Why did I dream about Avril Lavigne? I opened my laptop and logged-in to my facebook account.

There was one message notification from someone.  It says, “Wake up Dad”. It was from my wife. She is in the Philippines with our son and I am working here at Saudi Arabia. She used to send a message on facebook before I go to work in the morning.

Suddenly I realized, Avril Lavigne is my wife’s favorite artist. In fact she has a lot of posters of Avril in her own room and often sing her songs. She’s a big fan of Avril.

Oh, I miss my wife a lot.

What a dream. 😀

The Mystery and Magic of Long Distance Relationship

The sun is yours and the moon is mine
Our sights don’t meet as we gaze the sky
Even if oceans measure the distance and time
Our love comforts me and how I live by

Your waking is my moment of sleep
Yet you’re with me in my dreams so deep
Only then I can embrace you as mine to keep
As the sun captures the night it brings joy to my lips

My future is what you live now
While your past is my today
But do believe, somewhere somehow
Our tomorrow will be the same someday.

I love you.

Day 29: My Three Windows

Beauty is what I see,
Not the darkness
Nor the ugly.
The world,
a living dreams
Only I remember
the beauty it brings.
As the sun smiles,
His creations sing
My eyes are witnesses
of the dances and hymns.

Goodness is what I do.
To forgive in pain,
To share what I have with you.
People are not persons
No one do it
all alone.
Start to care,
Though it hurts
though unfair.
For my heart not to love,
Is what
I cannot bear.

To Praise is what I cry.
All my days
Until I die.
This life, not this rich
If not You
Whom I would keep.
I live
like a flower,
It blooms but not forever.
So my soul,
Shall not stop to worship
Until I reach
My final sleep.

I have three windows.
My eyes,
My heart,
My soul.

Day 28: Ode To A Playground

Back to the days
when the world was young,
No worries
for the days to come.
Wishes were prayers
for the rising sun,
for each day
love were shared where my feet ran.

Back to the days
where the world is big.
Much little steps
hours were just too few.
What were wanted all along
spend the strength gathered
the night through.

Thanks for the times
when I thought its forever,
Louder shouts, wider smiles and
treasures were laughter.
Rush felt, smelled the sweat,
Captured the breathe, quickened heartbeat.
Moments of  colors turned to black,
For no one cares to hate the heat.

Thanks to the land
Though it’s over,
Happiness shared
will live forever.
Thanks to the ground
where friends were found,
Memories are here
Safe and sound.

Hit or Miss: The Art of Crossing Roads

Most of us have been made to believe that cats have nine lives until we studied logic in college. Also, as early as three years old our parents taught us on how to cross roads. Do I make sense? Well, to put a connection between the two, let me share to you a riddle.

You saw a cat that is about to cross a busy road. How will you know that he already consumed his 8 lives and now spending his last?

(Please spend a few moment to think of the answer before you scroll down.)

traffic

The answer: If before crossing, the cat checks first his left and right to make sure that there are no coming vehicles from both direction, then he is now in his 9th life.

Either it is true or not, the fact is we humans are not cats. We only have one life to live. Surely, we don’t want to end our own in getting hit by a speeding car, unless you are not in a proper state of mind. But, however true that it is very dangerous to cross a busy road without using a pedestrian lane, many people still risk their lives by not using the designated areas for crossing roads and highways.

In my country, the Philippines, a lot of overpass structures, pedestrian lanes and signage are available to either remind or warn people to do the proper way of crossing, but still there are a lot of violators. But not like here in Jeddah, KSA. Overpasses are only available in few places and most pedestrian lanes are just on major road’s intersections and to places where there are traffic lights. People tend to risk their lives by playing hit or miss with speeding cars to be able to cross the road. Many avoid spending time to reach the proper areas for crossing, and I am one of them.

Every night, after work, I cross the highway on the above photo. Note that what is shown is just the other half of the total length I have to cross. The available pedestrian lane are far enough for me waste time using it. By doing it every given night, except during day-offs, somehow I mastered the art of crossing such kind of highway. Let me share some tips which you may apply if you are in the same situation. But remember this is not an encouragement that you do it my way. You always have that option to use the provided areas for crossing.

Here are some tips:

1. Don’t double your rush. You are on a rush that’s why you’re taking the risk, but don’t overdo it. Wait for the perfect timing.
2. Second thoughts are not allowed. When you decide to finally cross it, then finish it. Don’t change your mind by going back after a few steps. Chances are you put yourself to higher percentage of getting intro trouble and be hit. That’s why it is important to wait for the perfect timing.
3. Choose how you will cross. It’s either you run through it without stop or take it one lane at a time.  Run through if you saw an imaginary line where you can pass through by running without getting hit. It is a matter of looking and calculating the distance and speed of all the cars. Take one lane at a time if there is no available way of running through. Have a couple of stops  in the middle of the road to let the drivers see you and use your hand to signal them to slow down for you to be able to pass through.
4. It’s better to wear white clothes. White or any light color clothes are easily visible especially at night. Drivers can easily spot and avoid you.
5. Don’t do it alone. Wait for other people who are going to cross too. Crossing with a group is better than crossing alone. When crossing, if possible, use them as a shield. If bad luck happens, they will be the one to be hit first not you.
6. Wait for the clear road. If nervousness attacks, there will always be that moment when the road is clear and you can even walk through and no need to run. This needs a lot of patience. Patience that you rather use in reaching the nearest overpass or pedestrian lane.

In places where drivers feel they own the road, there are no better defense than telling ourselves that we are not superman nor a cat. By doing so we will value our lives more than reaching our destination at a lesser time.

Be safe.

Teachers, Students and Exams

“To toil and not to seek for rest”
(a motto of teachers paid on an hourly basis)

“Students, even how poor they are in class performance,
still they are capable of doing small miracles,
and even greater sometimes.”

Test questions are about your life.

Multiple Choice questions teach you about decision-making. True or False trains your reasoning. Fill-in-the-blanks provide you freedom. and lastly, don’t forget that ESSAY is not synonymous with EASY.

On Humans

Some Thoughts For Humans

“All humans have their own share of stupidity in their lives..
but it doesn’t mean that they are stupid persons.”

“The hindrance for people to properly understand things is when they have a prejudgment favorable to themselves even before they analyze any given situation.”

“Take time to look back,
there might be some things that you forgot to bring with you.”

“However tough the road was. Whatever odds you’ve been through. It doesn’t matter how many ups and downs you had. The thing is,  you finished the race, because there is always a success for a person who never quits.”

“We may have a mind that doesn’t forget,
but we have heart that can forgive.”

“Every one has a tendency to be a hero, because every one has goodness in their hearts however bad they are.”

“You’re Good. Get Better. Stop Complaining and Comparing.”
